Home remedies for hormonal acne

Although there are plenty of drugstores solutions to use when dealing with hormonal acne, sometimes, the easiest and more common, but very effective resources are found right in the kitchen at home. Using home remedies offer a lot of advantage, not only because it’s just within reach, but also because there are little side effects to it. You risk less damage to your skin, as there are no harsh chemicals present.

The use of home remedies, however, requires patience and perseverance, as the results don’t only work faster or instantly, compare to some pharmaceutical remedies. It’s also important to keep in mind that this type of acne is hereditary, which means that the treatment can only go so far as relieving irritation and breakouts. Being part of a person’s genetics, getting rid of hormonal acne completely may be impossible to achieve.

Below are a few home remedies to try for hormonal acne relief.

A. STEAMING

This method is helpful in cleaning the face. The steam should help open the pores so that it is easier to remove dirt and build-up of dead skin cells this way.

What you will need:

  • A bowl of warm water
  • Towel
  • Soft cloth for scrubbing the face

Method:

  1. Boil water in a pot. Let this sit for five minutes or less.
  2. Transfer the content in a bowl and then set yourself in a comfortable table.
  3. Hover your head over the bowl, so that your face can absorb the steam.
  4. Drape a towel over your head as you do this, so that when the steam or vapor escapes, it goes directly on your face.
  5. Don’t put your face too close to the water, or it might burn.
  6. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes, while wiping your face with a soft and clean cloth each time.

This method should be used at least three times a week to prevent acne breakouts. With the pores cleaner, it’s harder for build-ups to irritate and develop into full-blown acne.

B. GARLIC

Garlic is a very strong herbal ingredient used in many forms of ailments and conditions. Garlic’s active sulphur helps a lot with acne treatment as it reduces swelling, redness or inflammation.

What you will need:

  • 1 or 2 of garlic
  • Mortar and pestle
  • Water, for washing the face

Method:

  1. Simply crush a clove of garlic in a mortar and pestle. Make sure that it is fine and almost paste-like in consistency.
  2. Take the pulp with clean and bare hands, and then rub this in the affected area for a good five minutes. It may sting a little, but this is the garlic working its way into the irritation. You will get used to it with repeated application.
  3. After five minutes, rinse your face with water and then towel dry completely.

It is most recommended to use the garlic treatment before you sleep at night, as its aroma can be overpowering. As a preventive measure, you can also eat a clove of fresh garlic a day so that it is in your system.

C. ALMOND OIL

Almond oil has high vitamin E content, which helps with the repair of the skin cells damaged by an acne breakout. It also contains antioxidant that fights off infection.

What you will need:

  • Almond oil extract, which can be purchased at the grocery or health stores
  • Cotton balls

Method:

  1. Drop a few almond oil extracts to the cotton balls, filling it just enough to use on the acne.
  2. Gently rub this ball on the affected part, in a circular motion or you can rub it everywhere on the face.
  3. Leave it on for at least fifteen minutes, before washing it off with water.

For best results, do this twice daily by using almond oil when you wake up in the morning and before you sleep at night. This will work to soothe your skin and also give it a natural glow. If you make this a part of your skin care regimen, your skin will become more supple and soft.

D. CINNAMON AND HONEY

Both honey and cinnamon have anti-bacterial agents that work against the bacteria that’s making the acne grow worse.  The combination is really strong and effective, that some people may develop allergies because of it. Test on a small patch on your skin first before using this on your face, to make sure that your skin can work well with it.

What you will need:

  • Cinnamon powder, at least three tablespoons full
  • Honey, at least one teaspoon full
  • Small bowl
  • Soft cloth

Methods:

1. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon powder and honey until it turns into a paste-like consistency. This works like a wax solution.

2. Using your fingers or a soft cloth, simply rub this all over your face. It can be really sticky so make sure to spread evenly to avoid lumps. It’s better to do this method before going to bed and letting the solution set on your face overnight.

3. When you wake up in the morning, clean your face using warm water and towel dry well.

Do this method at least twice a week to remove acne.
